The Last Waltz Concert Anniversary

It was on American Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1976, at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco that  the farewell concert of  The Band, billed as The Last Waltz  took place and made history. At this truly special event  The Band  was joined by more than a dozen invited musical guests including Paul Butterfield, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Emmylou Harris, Ringo Starr, Ronnie Hawkins, Dr. John, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Muddy Waters, Ronnie Wood, Neil Diamond, Bobby Charles, The Staple Singers and Eric Clapton. The Last Waltz  Concert started at 5:00 p.m. and the 5,000 lucky concert goers who attended were served turkey dinners and were provided with a live orchestra to play for them. There was ballroom dancing and poetry readings and then The Band  played and their guest artists played and then some jam sessions occurred and finally at about 2:15 a.m. Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel and Robbie Robertson came out to play an encore and their last song together, Don’t Do it.

The music of  The Band  stands the test of time. The film of this concert is still regarded as one of the finest concert films ever made. When ever we play it in the store people will stay for much longer then they planned and enjoy some of the best music and musicians from the 60’s and 70’s when rock music was becoming the epic force we now know it to be. We have a rare and spectacular collectible that honours this concert and were recently made aware of how special it is. A friend of ours sent us a link to a rock music news site that showed just how much collectibles like this are worth.  http://ultimateclassicrock.com/last-waltz-autographed-auction/
