We are excited to announce that our second music themed art exhibit opens on Thursday evening April 11 at 7:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M.
Please join us at Village Vinyl for opening night of ‘DRAWN TO MUSIC’ an exhibition and sale of original drawings and prints by local artist Mike James. Meet the artist, view his art salute to those who make the music and enjoy some cafe refreshments in a great social atmosphere.
Mike shares a bit about himself below and his mission statement for the exhibit.
“I’ve been creating art for as long as I can remember and my passion has always been famous people. My main focus when I started drawing was athletes but I’m sure the people who know me well know how driven I am by music. ‘DRAWN TO MUSIC’ is the perfect way to pay tribute to so many incredible musicians who have been with me since I was a kid.
The first music I remember listening to was the oldies station my parents always had playing in the car – FM108. When I had my own record player as a child, I grew up listening to alot of classic rock; Hendrix, Floyd, Zeppelin, Cream and the Moody Blues were some of my favourites. My dad was always hitting up garage sales so there was never a shortage of different records and cassettes for me to listen to! And my passion for music has only grown from those days. Whether it was Twisted Sister, the Lemonheads, the Beastie Boys, Elliott Smith or the Arctic Monkeys, I’ve always had a very wide range of tastes. Music fuels me every day. It inspires me and drives me, it soothes me when I am down and gives me energy when I need the up boost.
‘DRAWN TO MUSIC’ gives a little glimpse into my world, both as an artist and a music fan. When it comes to my art I have always been driven to make it as real as possible – to capture all of the little details I can to make the subject come to life. I really enjoy working on a very small scale as well – to bring the viewer in close to really see what I can do.
When it comes to the musicians I have chosen to capture in art for this exhibit I selected a mixture of some of the major players who have made an impact on me throughout my life as well as some musicians who would connect with a wide variety of viewers.
I look forward to meeting you on Thursday April 11 and chatting with you about music and my art. The exhibit runs until Sunday May 5. Please enjoy!
