Our first art event PRIVATE MUSIC opens March 5 and runs through April 7.
Matthew Dupuis has photographed dozens of bands in concert and for editorial stories. In addition to being a regular contributor to BEATROUTE, some of his early video work was published online by SPIN Magazine.
PRIVATE MUSIC balances two different yet harmonious explorations of his work.
This show marks the first time his concert photography is presented in an exhibition. It also offers a glimpse into photographic documentation of lyrically inspired “street art” created by Michelle Trudgeon aka “Solstice”
Different aspects of Dupuis’ work have been featured in several solo and group shows including the 2009 CFL Grey Cup Festival. His work is held in several private and public collections including by The City of Calgary.
He has two album photography credits including on the Solstice LP, This Moment Will Never Happen Again (2008), from which some of the images in this show began as song lyrics.
Matthew Dupuis currently resides in Toronto where he studies broadcast television at Humber College.
A note on the word art…
Between 2008 and 2012 Matthew Dupuis collaborated extensively with an artist known in certain inceptions as “Solstice”. The text-based images in this show are her own sculptural renderings of lyrics from the self released LP This Moment Will Never Happen Again.
Many of the images in this show are owned by the musicians/bands themselves, their respective label and/or agent. Dupuis claims no rights beyond exhibiting them. While some are available for sale respectfully most are not.
In many ways this show makes public, PRIVATE MUSIC.
